Letters: Proposed sculpture and alcohol in parks

March 13, 2018 by Editor 2 Comments

Support for sculpture

How wonderful if all the good citizens of Benicia could have been at the Tuesday, March 6, City Council meeting. There were fabulous art ideas for Benicia city streets presented by the Arts Council.  They would have also seen pictures of the exquisite sculpture, “Neptune’s Daughter,” which has been donated to the city by the artist creator, Lisa Reinerston–with the suggested designation of “Neptune’s Daughter at the bottom of First Street” to stand in all her loveliness backed by the water’s edge.
But alas, woe! Two councilmembers, Babbits with feet of clay, cast negative votes for the additional funding to secure her presence in our artist friendly village. This is a call for action. Good denizens of Benicia– whether with pens, phones, notes, letters, demonstrations, pleas, requests or exhortations– make yourselves heard and have this lovely sculpture for our darling little town.

Carolyn Fallon,
Benicia

‘1984’ today

Puleeze say it ain’t so. Permits to be required by city bureaucrats to sip a glass of wine in the park while watching the sunset over the straits? (“Commission to vote on alcohol in public parks,” March 9) Has anybody read “1984”?

Curtis R. Hoffman,
Benicia

This build up of a coalition has been going on for over 20 years. The big issue is it is not temporary. All organized by Mayor Patterson. She now has one more horse on the council and needs only one more to rule this city with an iron fist. I saw it happen in San Francisco and Berkeley. Remember she said her biggest achievements were the Art Commission and the CSC. You add to that the Poets group and yes Rancho Benicia now being taken over by those same followers of the mayor. Does this sound like a conspiracy? Well it is not. It is a well planned out agenda driven ideals to run this city as a very Socialist Progressive city. It is happening right before your eyes and you are letting this very organized group now run this very fine city. Yes there is a call to action but not by the mayors group of Socialist Progressives. You now have a group of so called Progressive is this fine city. Their complete ideals are driven by Socialist Progressive politics. No Republicans welcome even in non-partisan elections such as City council/mayor. The art community is give far to much by Valero as a very good example. 5/$10,000 a year. The patrons should stand up and cover all cost of any art that is going to be put up on city property. I do hope all of you remember that disaster of the bike racks. Even more important the fully backed plan for that all electric car CODA. Yes both were a huge failure. Both fully backed by the mayor. Yes there is now a call to action! Stop the mayor and her group of cattle driven by just a view very strong Socialist Progressives. Saddle up and lets make a move to show this group that they do not run this very fine city. The voters/residents. Stand up and speak out. It is your city. You want safety, clean streets and safe streets, water/sewer rates that are affordable, It is your call. DO IT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Yes, vote YES on no alcohol in city parks without a permit. City parks were never meant to be your personal Beer Garden. You want to have a drink and watch the sunset go down go to Sailor Jacks the best view in town. Lets not make these parks into a homeless camp or a beer garden that will drive the residents away.
