Letters: Incorrect statements and A Taste of First Street

August 29, 2017 by Editor 7 Comments

Facts and credibility are very important

Why would I go through the trouble of writing this letter? Very simple: it does involve facts, truth and credibility. At the City Council meeting on Aug. 15, I spoke during the water and sewer comment session. Some things happened after that. One is that the mayor answered an email stating that I went over the allotted time. To those who watched the video stream of the meeting, it is very clear that I did not. I had wo minutes left. Then Susan Street wrote a letter to the editor and stated the same thing. Then Gretchen Burgess made a comment on the Benicia Herald website stating the same thing.
When do truth, facts and credibility count? They count when making false statements.
At this point, the mayor did respond to an email I sent her stating that she, Susan and Gretchen were wrong on the time limit. The mayor did say in a response I was correct, and she would tell the others. That’s not good enough. Credibility is very important for elected officials. To guide their followers to stating false info is not good. If the mayor did not guide them, then they did not review the video of the council meeting. That is even worse. It totally destroys their fact checking, credibility and further information that they may put forth to the residents.
This is not about me. It is about telling the truth. These folks did not convey correct info. If I do not correct it, who will? I will now ask for a public apology from the mayor, Susan Street and Gretchen Burgess. We shall see if they can.
I will always protect the truth. The residents should not be given false information. I will be waiting.

This is getting a bit out of hand. Lately, the frequency of personal back-and-forth being converted into op-eds has been a bit too high. This is supposed to be a newspaper, not a social media site. If people want to talk to each other in comments, fine, but the ongoing targeting personal vendettas that have been popping up really makes The Hearald look like it’s got a severe lack of content.

I have not had a chance to try Elviarita’s Mexican Grill yet, though. Any good?

BB do you think it is Ok for folks to write LTTE and someone else to write a comment and also the Mayor to make false statements about a person I sure hope not. BB I do believe when false statements are made If someone does correct the statement in my case it was me everyone who did not fallow the video would think I was wrong. I was not. Very important to be correct and not make false statements that can not be backed up. I was correct on this one.

Deal with it personally. It’s not “news” in the slightest, it’s your personal drama. The other LTTE is also silly and shouldn’t be here. All this does is make you and the other writers look like bickering children.

It is not personal drama BB. It was about a public meeting that the mayor made an incorrect statement about me. Then others followed. I will always do my best to correct false statements. Remember BB it was a council meeting not a neighbor dispute. The mayor started it and I will finish it.
