A nice discussion
I woke up on the last day of June to a very beautiful clear day. It got better when I retrieved my local paper, the Benicia Herald. They do a wonderful service for this very fine city. I would encourage more folks to read the local paper.
Why was I delighted? Very simple, the only two letters were mentioning me: Bob “The Owl” Livesay. I was very pleased that the locals were reading them and even more excited that they took the time to respond. I do not consider their responses to be negative but positive. Any time a local resident takes the time out of their busy lives to respond, that is a good thing.
I have written over 300 over a period of about seven years. I do not consider myself to be a negative person but that I am a very positive and big supporter of this fine city. I admire all the city employees and the fine job they do. Without them, this city would not function at the high level of efficiency as it does. Kudos to the city employees.
Yes, I do write comments about the mayor and her performance. I do agree most of my comments are not positive, but as a resident if I do not point out issues with the mayor and her leadership style, just who will? Some would suggest that I am on a crusade against the mayor. No. I am not. I’m just reporting the facts as I see them. She is the mayor and has been elected to the position three times. That is good, but it does not mean that there is not some lack of leadership skills. I do point that out.
I know Stan Houston, and I like him very much. He’s a fine business person, and he does care about the city. The other writer I do not know, but I’m very pleased he likes our very fine city and took the time to respond to my letter. I believe all residents should be more involved in our city and take the time to comment or write a response to any letter. I hope it is not the last time we hear from these two fine city residents.
I also encourage other residents to get involved also. I also understand because of my style of writing, it may appear to be a little in-your-face. It is my style, and I will continue to write that way. One big issue that I wrote about five years ago was the CalPers issue. I was right then and am still correct. Thank heaven for Measure C.
Keep reading and responding. It is a very healthy way to get involved. Have a wonderful Fourth of July. I will be watching.
