Letter: Patterson and Young just ended their political careers

July 4, 2018 by Editor 6 Comments

Patterson and Young just ended their political careers

We are now seeing the true political personal agenda of Mayor Patterson and Vice Mayor Young: anti-fossil fuel, and in the case of Benicia, anti-Valero.  This is not new to me. I have been talking about it for years.  I do now hope the residents/voters now understand that these two so-called politicians do not care about you.  They are driven by their own socialist agenda views.  Just think about this headline: “Benicia Mayor Leading Push To End Fossil Fuel Production In California,” followed by this ridiculous  headline:  “Elected Officials To Protect California.”  Is this really the protection we thought the mayor and vice mayor were pushing?
I am not surprised by her and the vice mayor’s actions. It was clear to me from the beginning. These two will also be followed by the “Patterson 12” and a very few others.  This time, these two so-called political leaders stepped in it big time. They will not be able to overcome this major political blunder.  Now will the Progressive Democrats Of Benicia (PDB) follow suit and join them?  If so, bye bye partisan politics in Benicia. They will seal their own downfall. The voters are much smarter than that, and will vote them out in 2020.  Any candidate these two push for the city council election in 2018 better start running for cover if these two back them.  You will be doomed.
This type of thinking will make businesses wanting to come to Benicia take a very hard look at Benicia politics.  Their thinking will be “Is this city trying to die a slow death? Who needs it?”    The thing the mayor does not understand is her proposal will hurt all other great businesses in this wonderful state.  How many more carrots can we grow in Kern County, heart of the oil production? They already supply about 90 percent of all worldwide carrots.  Think about pistachio production..  Not that long ago, we were not even a blip on the production  of pistachio.  We are now No. 2 in the world, all done in that wonderful oil production area of Kern, Tulare and Fresno counties.  How about the rose capitol in Wasco or the colorful cotton production of blue, yellow, etc., also in Wasco let alone the other fine cotton the area produces?  That is just a touch of what this wonderful state produces.
The mayor and vice mayor want to just let it go for personal agenda ideals and make California the new Dust Bowl.  The residents/voters of this fine state will run these folks right out of this wonderful state.  Valero is the single largest business in this town, and the mayor and vice mayor want to shut them down.  These two are so into their own personal agenda driven, socialist ideals they are unable to see the economic downfall this will bring.  As I said, any business wanting to come to Benicia will think twice now.
Since when was the mayor and vice mayor elected to destroy this very fine city?  Time is running out, but you can start in the 2018 City Council election by not voting for any candidate backed by these two or even have any identity to these two.  This means the PDB, which the vice mayor and a candidate for a council seat are on the steering committee for. Also, the Solano County Democratic Central Committee, which Vice Mayor Young and a council candidate also represent Benicia. So as you see, it runs deep.
Save this city, and let your votes do the talking. This is  not to be seen as a scare tactic but a fact presented by the mayor and vice mayor. I will be watching this as it moves forward. In the meantime, stay alert and save this city.

Bob Livesay,
Benicia

Well, I’m not a fan of any liberal; so are there any conservatives running? I don’t blame them for not saying they are conservative since it is a brush that tends to rally liberals like a red flag in front of a bull. I would vote FOR any candidate (even a liberal) who would actually state that they want to rescind the stupid ordinance prohibiting dogs in parks (an ordinance that is pretty much ignored by anyone with a dog). Still it is stupid and should be rescinded or replaced with something calling for fines to fail to pick up poop after your pet.

Officially, I agree that it is said that they are non partisan…but seriously, do you believe that?

No I do not believe that. But the candidates are not presented as what party they belong to. What happens is the Progressive Democrats {Socialist} Of Benicia and the Solano County Democratic Central Committee make it partisan. Their mission is to promote Progressive Democratic views. Meaning Socialist views along with the County group. They say it means equity and justice for all people as long as they are Progressive Socialist. So as you see you are correct there is not such a thing in the City of Benicia as a non-partisan election. The big problem is they have gone so far to the left with their radical agenda many are now starting to turn their back on them. The mayor and vice mayor just proved that with their approach to fossil fuel. It is over. They stretched the band too far and it broke and now it slapped them down. Their views are way out of touch with LOCAL views. No clue on how to move this city forward. 2018 will be the downfall of the mayor, vice mayor and any candidate they back. I could be wrong but I like the odds.

By the way. I wonder if the car Vice Mayor Young and Supervisor Brown were riding in was a fossil fuel car. Maybe it was not. Will have to check that out.

Speaker the big issue is how far left the Progressive Democrats have gone. They no longer represent the total Democratic party. Very far left leaning radicals like Bernie, Warren and the newly elected congress person will destroy the party and carry over to Benicia. Simply because that is how Mayor Patterson, Vice Mayor Young and the local Progressive Democrats feel. It will hurt any candidate they back.
