Both Benicia and St. Patrick-St. Vincent high schools had their varsity softball teams clinch league championships late in the week.

Benicia captured an outright Solano County Athletic Conference championship thanks to a 15-0 win over visiting Fairfield last Thursday and a 7-0 victory at Vallejo on Friday. The Lady Panthers improved to 15-4 overall and 13-0 in the SCAC, three games ahead of Vanden (9-3 SCAC) with two games remaining.
SPSV swept a doubleheader from visiting El Cerrito on Friday, winning 17-0 and 16-0 to gain a co-championship with Salesian in the Tri-County Athletic League. The Lady Bruins (20-3, 9-1 TCAL) own the tiebreaker over Salesian (9-1 TCAL), get an automatic berth into the North Coast Section playoffs and get a first-round bye in this week’s TCAL playoffs.
Benicia pitcher Danielle Kranz threw a no-hitter against Vallejo – the senior’s fourth no-hitter of the year. Vallejo managed only one hit off Kranz in 15 innings this season. Benicia’s offense scored in 5-of-7 innings, led by Chanler Powell’s two RBI and three hits by Alana Combes.
The Lady Panthers scored 15 runs in the first three innings against Fairfield. Taylor Bloch went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and five RBI. Combes went 3-for-3 with three runs, Jenna Anway scored three times and Mallory Barnard went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Brianna Schlattman made her first pitching start of the season and allowed only one hit in a five-inning shutout.
SPSV celebrated Senior Day by demolishing El Cerrito twice. Christina Snell had four hits in the first game and drove in several runs. Taya de Alba pitched a two-hit shutout in Game 1 and Cecily Kaluza tossed a two-hit shutout in Game 2.
