May 5, 2014 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

Valero Benicia Refinery released 3,927 pounds of sulfur dioxide during a flaring incident April 20-24, Terry Schmidtbauer, environmental health manager, wrote Solano County Board of Supervisors on May 2.

The release came from a flare stack, he wrote, and once the incident concluded, operations returned to normal.

Solano County Department of Resource Management’s Environmental Health Services division is required the California Health and Safety Code and Proposition 65 to report hazardous materials releases and spills.

This particular incident was described in Schmidtbauer’s notification as causing “minor risk to air quality” near the refinery, 3400 East Second St.
