The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High varsity softball team went 4-1 and won the championship in its flight at last weekend’s Pleasant Valley Tournament in Chico.
The Lady Bruins (7-1) beat Wheatland, 7-1, and host Pleasant Valley, 2-1, on Friday before ending pool play with a 2-1 loss to Foothill. SPSV came back on Saturday and beat Nevada Union in the semifinals, 12-7, then beat Yuba City in the finals, 10-7.
“Our pitching was awesome on Friday and then our bats came alive on Saturday,”said SPSV coach Rich Gigliotti. “We hit the ball really, really well.”
Pitcher Taya de Alba gave up only one earned run in two games on Friday. Cecily Kaluza gave up two unearned runs in the loss to Foothill.
Neenah Pangelinan had 14 hits during the weekend, including a home run. Chelsea Mari had 10 hits, and de Alba, Jaydee Boursaw and Marisa Avalos also had a big offensive tournament.
