Halle Webster had 10 kills and two blocks as the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team beat host Justin-Siena on Wednesday night, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 25-14.
Isabel Villalobos added nine kills and 18 digs for the Lady Bruins (5-1), who travel to St. Helena for another non-league match on Friday.
“We found our rhythm,” said SPSV senior setter Catherine Cortez, who had 14 assists, 13 digs and four aces. “Even though it was really hot and the weather kind of got to us, we really hustled and were able to fight through and keep our mental game strong. We built on our runs and limited their runs.”
Other standouts for SPSV included Nikki Lumauod (nine kills, three aces, 15 digs) and Jaiden Paja (10 assists, six digs).
It was the second win in two nights for the Lady Bruins, who have shown early in the season they can contain opponents with a tall front line by playing determined volleyball and maintaining their focus.
“It’s definitely given us a lot of hope,” Cortez said of the team’s 5-1 start. “Even though we’re a small team, we can out-hustle and out-play our bigger opponents if we play with heart and a lot of mental toughness.”
