Jeff Burkhart’s “Rhyme and Reason”: Walls

January 29, 2017 by Jeff Burkhart Leave a Comment

Pub Shot

The Great Wall spanning China
Or the Wall in East Berlin
Were made to keep the people out
And hold the people in

Masons mixing mortar
Joining bricks in common cause
Silencing the voices
With their edicts and their laws

Can only stop the flesh
Because a mind is free to roam
Behind closed eyes remembering
The way to get back home

The other side of either side
Calls out for us to hear it
In time the walls all break and fall
Crushed by the human spirit
