Throughout time the young men go, to fight the old men’s war
To charge and fight and kill and die, but not to ask what for
A rite of passage gauntlet game, to see which ones survive
To live out life just wondering why, that they are still alive
Whittled warriors, bodies broken, torn apart in battle
Sworn to oaths of honor, sacrificed as bits of chattel
Old diplomats debate until, their final card is played
Young men burn and bomb and bleed, their worth is daily weighed
Both sides moving forward, fighting for a cause so just
Young men know not why it is, but fight a young man must
When it’s done the world forgets, the decades pass until
Two old men call their young men up, so they’ll enforce their will
