Jeff Burkhart’s “Rhyme and Reason”: The REALLY BIG Rhyme & Reason Summer Sales Event

July 22, 2018 by Jeff Burkhart Leave a Comment

Extra, Extra; Poems for sale!
For lovers, friends and cousins
Get ‘em while they’re fresh today
They’re cheaper by the dozen

Here’s a way that you can help
To raise the GDP
Just take a little bread you’ve earned
And send it on to me

I can write you poems of love
Or I can make you chuckle
Take this chance to help a bard
Who’s been down on his luckle

Isn’t it ironic THAT
These poems THAT leave my head
THAT everybody says they love
Don’t bring me any bread

Maybe I could drive some nails
Or I could dig some ditches
Maybe God did not intend
For me to write for riches

I guess that’s just the way it goes
My fate’s that I excel
In writing odes to this and that
That I can’t seem to sell
