Think of all the things on Earth, which people think they own
Buildings, land and money, they can spend or waste or loan
It all works if everyone, respects the current laws
Sometimes ownership breaks down, exposing all its flaws
We use small bits of paper, which we trade for things we buy
We’re living in a house of cards, and here’s the reason why
Deeds, when closely scrutinized, by lawyers paid to delve
Might show you own your house from treaties, signed in 1812
Prior to that your yard was owned, by Cherokee, here’s why
They said that it was given by, “The Spirit in the Sky”
Men prayed to God and filled his plate, while kneeling under steeples
Then took the rest and bought some slaves, so they’d own other peoples
Columbus plants a flag upon a beach or on the moon
You can bet somebody else will come and claim it soon
