Little boys are grumpy
When they first get out of bed
Crying, whining, screaming;
“Was it something that I said?”
Then a dose of chocolate milk
It seems to chill them out
Mothers know what works the best
For boys without a doubt
Now let’s have our breakfast
Turkey bacon, scrambled eggs
Tossed around the room
And on their face and on their legs
Bouncing on my bed
Open my suitcase, steal my shoes
Putting on my glasses
Seeking more things they can lose
Throwing their arms around my neck
As I look for my belt
A kiss upon each cheek and then
My heart begins to melt
I have an observation
That I’ll share so you’ll be told
“Little boys remind me that
I’ve gotten very old!”
