Jeff Burkhart’s ‘Rhyme and Reason’: For Goodness’ Sake

March 2, 2014 by Jeff Burkhart Leave a Comment

I’VE READ THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
And the Code of Hammurabi
Rules from God and government
And special-interest lobbies
Codes for doing good are learned
And living life’s your quiz
But you don’t need a manual
We all know what it is
Making laws to live by
And enforcing them with might
In the end is useless
If we each don’t see the light
Good and evil’s struggle
Has waged war right from the start
The battle’s never ending
And it’s fought within your heart
When you reach the crossroads
Give the world more than you take
The rule of thumb is easy
Just do good for goodness’ sake
