A law’s designed to stop someone, from doing something wrong
As time goes on the list of laws, continues to grow long
Politicians meet and pass, new edicts every year
To keep us from committing, the behaviors that they fear
Each one has their own platform, made laws they hope to pass
10 or twenty brand new laws, from every bag of gas
The 10 commandments used to be, the basis for it all
To make the people toe the line, and criminals forestall
Now the law concerns itself, with texting and large sodas
Santa Claus and patent law, and things that rile the voters
With so many citizens, observing other’s flaws
In one hundred years we’ll have, a million more damn laws
