Jeff Burkhart’s “Rhyme and Reason”: Bostonian

August 20, 2017 by Jeff Burkhart Leave a Comment

I’ve spent some time in Boston
Massachusetts is 1st class
Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots
The beans will give you gas

It took some time to understand
The way they speak their words
I marvel at the way they treat
Nouns, adjectives and verbs

The way that they say “Peabody”
Sounds like it’s “P’b’dee”
“Car” is “kaa” and “far” is “faa”
And it’s all is Greek to me

The dial on the radio;
They say that it’s a “tuna”!
The fish that I pronounce that way
They speak like it is “tuner”

The day they taught Bostonian
In school I must have missed
I think I’ll get the hang of it
Quite soon if I persist
