Jeff Burkhart’s “Rhyme and Reason”: A Writer’s Lot

May 6, 2018 by Jeff Burkhart Leave a Comment

As thoughts turn to ideas
Choose the first line that you want
Write until you finish
Time to edit, choose a font

Read it like a stranger
Give a critical review
Then rewrite it fifty times
Until it’s good for you

In the end when it’s complete
You’ll publish it perhaps
Your name up on the cover
Boldly printed all in caps

There’s lots of competition
So it may or may not sell
It’s just another story
That another writer tells

Some will win a Pulitzer
And some will not get paid
Write I must and write I will
Upon my course I’ll stay
