Adrian Jacobs, an 11-year-old fifth grader attending Joe Henderson Elementary School in Benicia, has again been chosen to play for the USA under-12 team in the 2015 FC Barcelona Escola International Soccer Tournament.
Jacobs represented the USA in the same tournament last April and played striker. Despite being the youngest boy on the USA Red under-12 “Formacio” squad, Jacobs led the team in scoring with six goals and three assists.
This year’s tournament takes place from March 29 through April 2, and Jacobs will again play for the under-12 Team USA Formacio team.
Jacobs’s soccer skills were noticed at the California Magic Dinamo Zagreb ID Camp in July of 2014, and he was offered a Professional Trial for over two weeks at GNK Dinamo Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia.
“We were able to work with the staff at Dinamo and they permitted us to have Adrian’s trial this month before the FC Barcelona Tournament,” said his father, Michael.
GNK Dinamo Zagreb was recently ranked the fourth best soccer club in all of Europe for developing professional soccer players. FC Barcelona is third on that list.
“It’s a tremendous, potentially life-altering opportunity and an extremely rare honor for Adrian to be chosen to trial with Dinamo,” Michael Jacobs said. “If he does well during the trial, they could potentially offer him another longer trial or offer to sign him to their youth academy.”
Jacobs also recently went to the Regional West Ham United ID Camp in Alameda and was chosen to attend the West Ham United USA National camp this upcoming in Rome, Georgia. If he does well there, he could earn a spot to go to West Ham United in London, England, for a week-long ID camp.
