The Benicia Outlaws 10-under softball team played its final tournament of the 2014 fall season in Napa last weekend and finished with its second straight tourney championship.
Benicia started the weekend by smashing the Novato Heat, 13-0. Jessica Hardesty threw a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit and one walk with five strikeouts. Hardesty, Ashley Hopkins, Kailani Tatro and Hailey Weddington led the hitting attach with two hits each, and Desirae Bally drove in two runs.
The Outlaws beat the Nevada Dynomite in the second game of pool play, 13-1. Tatro pitched a complete game, allowing two hits while striking out six. Kylie Jensen had two hits and Denise Paulitech ripped a three-run double in the first inning. Taylor Murphy added a three-run triple and Alyson Walling stole home.
Benicia played its third game of pool play against the Concord Glory and won 9-2. Braxton Brown threw three no-hit innings and struck out seven. The Outlaws wrapped up pool play with a 9-1 victory over the Rohnert Park Rebels. Brown struck out seven in three innings while Hardesty and Jensen closed things out. The hitting stars for Benicia were Brown, Weddington and Murphy, who each had two hits.
Benicia went into Sunday’s elimination day as the No. 1 seed and had a bye into the semifinals. Taking on No. 4 seed Concord Glory, the Outlaws fell behind 4-0 in the first inning but answered with seven runs in the bottom half. Concord closed to within 7-5, but Benicia scored three times in the bottom of the third thanks to a double by Hopkins and held on for a 10-5 victory.
Benicia dominated the Fremont Flyers in the championship game, winning 10-0. The Outlaws ended the year with 11 straight wins, two championships and two second-place finishes in seven tournaments.
The Benicia Outlaws will be holding tryouts for the 10-under ‘A’ team spring season at Benicia Middle School on Nov. 15 and 22 from 8-10 a.m.
