June 10, 2016 by Nick Sestanovich Leave a Comment

Summer is here, which means it is time for Benicia to kick off another round of its Art Walk series.

During Art Walks, people can visit the town’s participating art galleries for a variety of surprises. This Saturday, six galleries will be featuring special events with exquisite art and a whole lot more.

First up is Gallerie Renee Marie, located at 1038 First St. Gallerie Renee Marie is a co-op of 12 artists who specialize in contemporary urban art. Visitors will get to see the works of member artists like Anne Petty and Robert Schweibert, and they will also be treated to a live demonstration by Randy Bernard. Bernard will be creating a piece titled “2016 Art Walk Hall of Fame,” in which he will be honoring cultural legends who have passed away this year, including David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali and more. Children will be allowed to help him complete the project after 3 p.m.

Another stop is Lindsay Art Glass, located at 109 East F St. The studio will be hosting a trunk show by Sonoma Art Works jewelry artist Cheryl Sirkus. There will also be glassblowing demonstrations by David Lindsay and Carl Spurgeon. Visitors can also make their own ornaments, which can be scheduled by emailing wholesale@lindsayartglass.com.

Gallery 621, located at 309 First St., will be presenting Kathy Oja’s exhibition “Colorful Expressions,” featuring new work by the artist. There will also be new works by other artists, painting demonstrations by Marjorie Lutz and more.

Benicia Plein Air Gallery, located at 307 First St., will be hosting a group show called “Reflections.” There will be a reception to meet the member artists of this gallery and refreshments served on the patio.

Once Upon a Canvas, located in Suite J of the Tannery Building at 129 First St., will feature a portrait demonstration by Tom Contreras, an oil painting demonstration by Charles White and wine glass painting by Sue Kleiman.

Finally, Mernie Buchanan will be doing a live demonstration at her gallery, located at 117 East D St.

However, the art does not stop there. Art will also be displayed at Pups ‘N’ Purrz, Mosaic Market, Alvord’s Treasure Chest, and Bonjour Fashion and Living. Patrons will also be treated to saxophone and violin music by Kevin Frazier and Sven Chilton respectively, and they can visit any of First Street’s shops in the process.

All Art Walks will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on the second Saturdays of June, July, September and October. For more information, visit Facebook.com/BeniciaArtWalk.
