Early registration is now open for the Benicia Arsenal F.C. fall soccer recreation program.

BENICIA — Benicia Arsenal F.C.’s recreational program is an ideal entry point for players who want to learn about soccer in a supportive team environment, play with friends, and have some fun. Research shows that kids who participate in recreational activities have increased self-esteem, improved reasoning skills, and are better able to comply with rules and fair play on the field and in the classroom.

Benicia Arsenal F.C.’s recreational program is an ideal entry point for players who want to learn about soccer in a supportive team environment, play with friends, and have some fun. Research shows that kids who participate in recreational activities have increased self-esteem, improved reasoning skills, and are better able to comply with rules and fair play on the field and in the classroom.

Over 500 players each year compete in a 10-game recreational season, which runs from early August through November. Players participate in two practices and one game per week and are coached by volunteer coaches who, with support from Director of Coaching Graham Mayle, provide age-appropriate methods designed to give players the best possible soccer experience.

“The league strives to teach players correct, age-appropriate technical skills and tactical understanding, with an emphasis on long-term development,” says Mayle. “Our goal is to create an environment where all children of all abilities are given the opportunity to excel in a positive, safe, and enjoyable setting.”

The recreational program also offers special practices with U.K. trainers and an invitational Academy Program for players to accelerate their development with additional training and competition opportunities.

“There’s a lot of excitement for this upcoming season,” says newly-elected BAFC Board President Scott Swoboda. “We have a strong team in place with new board members Yann Jouvenot, Jose Beltran, and Reba Halverson, as well as returning board members Matt Phelps, Mike Distler, Jacob Guttenberg, and Carlos Martinez. We also have an energetic auxiliary recreational planning committee in place that has taken on much of the organizational planning. We expect to come out strong and make this a memorable season for the kids.”

In addition to recreational soccer, Benicia Arsenal F.C. offers several programs to enhance soccer opportunities in Benicia. Players who wish to further their technical skills in a competitive environment may try out for the Benicia Arsenal F.C. competitive program.

Benicia Arsenal F.C. also houses a TOPSoccer program (The Outreach Program for Soccer), a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities.
