Gates open at 3 p.m.
The highlight concert Thursday night stars Little Anthony and the Imperials, whose hits include “Goin’ Out of My Head,” “Hurt So Bad” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Pop,” featuring Jerome “Little Anthony” Gourdine’s high falsetto voice.
For children, the fair has shows by Radio Disney’s Planes 2 Road Crew, The AGtion Ranch Barnyard Fun activities, pony rides and an animal petting area in the Family Fun zone.
They may encounter characters from the comic strip “BC,” spin a wheel at the Gem and Minerals Display, watch Sadie the Balloon Lady reshape balloons, participate in the Kids Corner Crafts and Activities in McCormack Hall, and cheer the Great American Pig Races.
Families can visit exhibit entry and newborn animals in the Livestock Barn, reptiles and other creatures brought by Brad’s World Reptiles, exhibits and demonstrations by representatives of Solano County’s various ethnic groups in the Cultural Pavilion, and representatives and volunteers of both the county and its seven cities in the Solano County and Cities Expo.
Members of 4H will show their youth science experiments, and others will compete in the Youth Cooking Contest in McCormack Hall, where adults, too, will enter a cooking contest, and where competitive arts and crafts displays can be viewed as well.
Among the daytime entertainment are Alexis Doria, hypnotist Steve Bayner, Ohana ‘O Lokimaika’i Hawaiian dancers, the Best Intentions, and Chicago Steppers.
Also on the bill are Sacred Fire fire dancers, Too Much Fiction, the Cavy Show, Balloonacy and televised horse racing from throughout the world.
Fairgoers can participate in the Karaoke Party and the Music Parade, and they can watch a fireworks display after the evening performance at 8 p.m. by Little Anthony and the Imperials in the concert arena.
Since Thursday is Kids Day, those 12 and younger are admitted free of charge.
Fair hours are 3-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Buildings close at 10 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for children 6 to 12 after Thursday, $6 for those 60 and older, and free to those 5 and younger and to members of the military and their dependents, as long as each has identification. Parking is $10. Carnival Midway tickets are extra.
