
KENDALL CORE was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player and helped Alabama State win its first SWAC title.
Former Benicia High softball star Kendall Core helped Alabama State’s softball team win its first Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament championship and was named the tourney’s Most Valuable Player.
Core, who graduated from Benicia High in 2013 after winning two consecutive Solano County Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player awards, went 3-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs during the SWAC Tournament championship game against defending champion Texas Southern. Her two-run homer in the first inning got Alabama State started, and another two-run homer an inning later helped propel the Lady Hornets to a convincing 18-8 victory.
Core’s former teammate at Benicia High – Chanler Powell – plays for Texas Southern and went 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI in the championship game.

Alex Wardlow, another former Benicia softball star, was named to the Big Sky Conference All-Tournament team representing the Montana Grizzlies. Wardlow was a sophomore left fielder for Montana this season.
