Congressman to lead local peloton

August 28, 2015 by Donna Beth Weilenman 1 Comment

Mike Thompson will participate in ‘Bridge to Bridge’ event

Bicyclists can join U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Napa, on a “Bridge to Bridge” bicycle ride Saturday morning.

Those interested will meet early Sautrday at the parking lot at First and B streets, where they will be joined for the ride by Thompson, Benicia’s representative in Congress, members of Benicia Bicycle Club and other local dignitaries.

While making the entire loop is not required, those who decide to go the distance will travel along the Benicia Bridge into Martinez, then ride toward the Carquinez Bridge by way of the George Miller Regional Trail, during which they can catch scenes along the Carquinez Strait.

The full distance is about 25 miles, and has been described as a “moderate” ride in terms of difficulty. The pace also will be considered “moderate,” and stops along the way will be frequent, organizers said.

Riders will need to wear helmets, and children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Those interested may contact ride leader Nancy Lund, a member of the Benicia Bicycle Club, at nslund@earthlink.net, or Thompson aide Mel Orpilla at Mel.Orpilla@mail.house.gov.

The ride will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at First and B streets.
