Comeback attempt comes up short for SPSV baseball team in TCAL semifinal

May 13, 2015 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High baseball team tried clawing its way back from an early eight-run deficit but came up short Tuesday, falling 8-6 to host St. Mary’s in the Tri-County Athletic League semifinals.

St. Mary’s, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, batted around in the first inning and scored eight runs with the help of a three-run homer by junior Andre Nnebe. SPSV’s pitching staff didn’t allow another run the rest of the day.

The Bruins battled back, scoring three runs in the top of the third and three more in the sixth to make it a two-run game. Though the Bruins ended up out-hitting the Panthers, they couldn’t catch them on the scoreboard.

The Bruins finished last in the TCAL during the regular season and fell to 9-10 overall, a record which may not go far attracting a seed in the upcoming North Coast Section playoffs. St. Mary’s (15-7) hosts Pinole Valley in today’s TCAL championship game.
