The United States Coast Guard’s Vallejo station has been monitoring a drifting boat’s travels along the Benicia coastline for several months, making sure the vessel that appears to be dragging an anchor doesn’t impede boat traffic along the Carquinez Strait.

Recently the boat has been seen off West Ninth Street and off West Sixth Street. On Christmas Day, it was bobbing off West F Street, according to local witnesses.

The sailboat has an enclosed cabin and its mast is fastened to the cabin roof.

Coast Guard officers have been trying without success to reach anyone who might be the owner of the sailboat, according to a member of the Vallejo station’s staff who declined to identify herself.

Because the boat could become a hazard, the Coast Guard was expected to contact the Army Corps of Engineers to arrange for the boat’s removal, she said.

That was expected to happen as early as Monday, she said.
