City to offer green waste drop-off in April

March 29, 2017 by Nick Sestanovich Leave a Comment

The weather is warming up, which means it is time for residents to get their yards in shape, especially after a particularly stormy season. After pulling up all the weeds, trimming the branches and removing other vegetation, the question then becomes, “What do I do with all this excess flora?”

The good news is that residents once again do not have to worry about overflowing green bins. They can bring all their waste to the Corporation Yard at the end of April.

The Benicia Fire Department, Public Works Department and Republic Services will be joining forces for the annual Citywide Green Waste and Weed Abatement Clean-Up Program in the last weekend of April. Residents will simply bring the weeds and other vegetation removed from their yards to the Corporation Yard and dump them. Only green waste and vegetation will be accepted, with the exception of palm fronds. Additionally, tree branch cuttings must be limited to 4 inches in diameter. The event is free and open to Benicia homeowners only, as commercial dumping will be prohibited. Participants are required to show proof of residency before entering.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30 at the Corporation Yard, located at 2400 East Second St. For more information, contact the Benicia Fire Department at 746-4275.
