As part of its ongoing efforts to increase community awareness of local issues, the city of Benicia has implemented its own weekly online newsletter. The inaugural edition of “City of Benicia This Week” was released on Sunday.

Six items are briefly highlighted in the first e-blast. These include the hiring of Cindy Mosser as the city’s new finance director, the city’s annual National Night Out tonight from 6 to 8:30 p.m., an open position for a Benicia resident to sit on the Solano Transportation Authority’s Pedestrian Advisory Committee as well as this week’s Solano County Fair.

Another item is the new citizen engagement tool Benicia Town Hall, in which residents can weigh in on issues facing Benicia. The most recent survey regarding the use of cannabis in Benicia closed last night, and the results will be presented at the next City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15. At press time, the survey had received 394 responses.

To read the latest edition of “City of Benicia This Week” and sign up for the mailing list to have it delivered to your email inbox, go to http://www.ci.benicia.ca.us/announcements and click on the item from July 30. For more information, call the city manager’s office at 746-4200.
