Christina Strawbridge: To receive or not to receive an endorsement– that is the question

I am honored to have received the following endorsements and support for my City Council reelection:
* Benicia Police Officers Association
* Local 1186 Benicia Firefighters Association
* Benicia Teachers’ Association
* Solano Board of Realtors
* Benicia Chamber of Commerce
* Napa Solano Labor Council
* Napa Solano Building Trades Council
The Police and Firefighters’ endorsements were especially important since safety for Benicia is a top priority to me and our residents. It is a fact that the community rated safety No. 1in a 2014 survey when asked about city services. We are fortunate to have such an amazing relationship with our safety partners especially compared with other cities around the country. Most of their efforts go under the radar, but in a recent case Benicia community policing made national news because of its positive message.
Benicia Herald Forum articles and social media attacks of my acceptance of these endorsements and the groups that represent working men and women in the community are not only without merit but are hypocritical.
So now it’s a bad thing to receive an endorsement or is it?
The candidates running for this election, including Elizabeth Patterson and Steve Young, had the opportunity to ask for these endorsements. Patterson and Young did seek these organizations’ support through individual interviews before the group’s representatives. They did not receive endorsements from any of these community organizations.
Not one.
My commitment to Benicia has not changed in over 30 years of being involved in the community. As a councilmember, I pride myself in keeping an open mind before hearing an issue, doing my own research and using common sense to make sometimes tough decisions on behalf of the town.
I believe that my record in dealing with issues brought me unanimous approval of groups as diverse as labor and business. I am also supported by my fellow three councilmembers along with a long list of community leaders and citizens.
I look forward to continuing to serve on Benicia’s City Council for the next four years as a calming force for all of Benicia.

    This is a very good article. Spells out personal endorsements. These endorsements are very important. These are from the folks that keep our city and residents safe. They also teach our children. They also support our city with business that maintains our very fine city. These endorsement are very important and meaningful. It is very important to see the two candidates that did not get these endorsements. Mayor Patterson and Steve Young. The question should be why a sitting mayor did not get these endorsements. Better yet why did Steve Young not get these endorsements. Believe me they would love to have them. These endorsements are from groups and folks that see the day to day running of this city. They teach your children, they keep this city safe and they are mindful of what the residents needs are. Congratulations Council member Strawbridge you earned these endorsements and they mean a lot.. This is the type of person you want representing this city. Vote for Christina Strawbridge. She has the residents in her thoughts all the time.

      Will do you believe endorsements are important? I sure do. All candidates seek endorsements and list them. . When a candidate gets local endorsements like the Chamber of Commerce, BPOA and the Benicia Teachers Association what local candidate would not want those endorsements. Christina Strawbridge got them and Mayor Patterson and Steve Young did not get them. Will I have only been doing it for about seven years in Benicia. Reporting is important put so are facts.
