Benicia Herald staff report

Benicia police and fire departments responded shortly after noon Thursday to a report of a vehicle colliding with the McDonald’s restaurant building on East 2nd Street. The vehicle’s driver reportedly was attempting to park in the south parking lot when she accidentally pressed on the accelerator pedal, propelling the vehicle into the interior of the restaurant through its south wall and windows.

The driver was identified as 84-year-old Benicia resident Ann Bowman. Bowman was treated at the scene by Benicia Fire Department personnel and transported to a hospital for further treatment. Her husband, who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, is not known to have received any injuries, and damage to the restaurant building is estimated to be moderate. Likewise, none of the customers or employees were reported injured. A building inspector from the city of Benicia was contacted and will examine the integrity of the structure.
The incident was forwarded to the Benicia Police Department’s traffic division for further review and investigation.
