The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys varsity volleyball team served up nearly 30 aces Tuesday night and cruised past the visiting Richmond Oilers, 25-10, 25-6, 25-12.
The Bruins (4-0 Tri-County Athletic League) dominated from the start as Richmond (0-6, 0-4 TCAL) struggled on serve receive. Miscommunication in the Oilers backcourt led to several easy points for SPSV, with aces accounting for roughly 40 percent of its points.
“We took control of the game with our serving,” said senior John Cuevas, who had seven aces.
“Serving is our first attack so it’s always a big focus for us in a game,” added senior Mark Perez, who had three aces and three kills.
Dominic Nicolas had a strong night with eight assists, four digs and three aces. Anthony Olmes had seven assists, three aces and three digs while Alex Olmes added four kills and three aces for the Bruins.
Other contributors for SPSV included Max King (four aces), Ryan Villaseran (four aces), and Deo Boongaling, Matthew Peters, Noah Moretti and Patrick Basco (three kills each).
The Bruins put their undefeated season on the line Friday night when they host powerful De La Salle.
“Our confidence level has increased tremendously,” Perez said. “We’ve been running a better offense where everyone is getting involved instead of relying on one or two guys.”
“We’re getting into a rhythm and hopefully we’ll do well against De La Salle,” Cuevas said.
