Bruins hope to keep clicking Friday against Valley Christian

September 17, 2015 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High varsity football team will try to make it three wins in a row Friday night when the Bruins host the Valley Christian Vikings at Dante Magnani Field.

The Bruins (2-1) have looked great at home this season, winning back-to-back games by an average of 20.5 points for their first winning streak in two years. Last week’s 28-0 victory over Burton was SPSV’s first shutout win since Sept. 27, 2013 and was the fifth win in seven home games under second-year head coach Lane Hawkins.

Valley Christian (2-0), which played against SPSV in the Tri-County Athletic League’s Rock Division in 2012 and 2013, had beaten the Bruins in two straight meetings until SPSV pulled out a 40-39 victory at Chabot College last season. The last time the Vikings visited Dante Magnani Field was in 2012 when they won 44-12.

This is the third straight road game for the Vikings, who opened the season with a 35-14 win at Ferndale and beat Vacaville Christian last week in Vacaville, 47-31. Senior quarterback Chris Jackson leads a potent offense. Senior tight end and linebacker Matt Calcagno is another key player.
