B.J. Standley scored a game-high 18 points and three other Bruins scored in double figures as the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys basketball team beat visiting Salesian, 66-51, Tuesday night in the Tri-County Athletic League semifinals.
It was the 20th victory of the season for the Bruins (20-7), who snapped a three-game losing streak. SPSV advances to the TCAL finals Friday night at top-seeded El Cerrito (24-3), which beat St. Joe’s, 72-61, in the other semifinal.
“We had a really nasty taste in our mouths for a while so it was good to get that win,” said SPSV head coach Derek Walker.
The Bruins opened the game with a 22-13 run and led 37-25 at the break, but Salesian (18-10) answered with a 20-9 run to open the second half and pulled to within 46-45. Standley and D.J. Harris each hit 3-pointers down the stretch as SPSV held the Pride to only six points in the fourth quarter.
“We came out focused and made some shots early,” Walker said. “And I liked our defense and overall energy.”
Tavian Henderson had 14 points for the Bruins, who buried nine 3-pointers, including six in the first half. Jack Gamba came off the bench and added 13 points, and Harris finished with 12 points.
