The Blue team outran and out-muscled the Gold team en route to a 18-6 victory in Benicia High’s annual Powderpuff football game Friday night at Drolette Stadium.
Quarterback Michelle Minahen piloted the Blue to a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter and made it 18-0 with a 49-yard TD run early in the third quarter. Blue running backs Alex Wardlow and Emily Wolfe each found the end zone and piled up yardage all night. Wardlow took a pitch 32 yards for the game’s first touchdown early in the second quarter, and Wolfe scored on Blue’s next possession with a 60-yard TD burst up the middle.
Gold’s offense had its shining moments with quarterback Hannah Molinar, running backs Kimberly Fiori, Baylee Rowley and Elin Wohlfart, and receiver Brittany Portello. But Blue’s defense, led by Wardlow at linebacker, had a shutout going until Fiori finally got Gold on the scoreboard with a minute remaining, capping off a nice drive with a 2-yard TD run.
Other standouts for Blue included Jenna Rogenski, Lindsey Klein and Julia Sapp. Standouts for Gold included Deja Calloway, Karis Wright and Haley Rodekohr.
