John Bonnette’s three-run homer in the sixth inning propelled Benicia’s Big League all-star team to a 9-6 victory over San Jose/Milpitas/Gilroy in the Northern California Tournament at the University of the Pacific on Sunday.

Bonnette also had a RBI double as Benicia advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals against Section 3 champion District 57, a team composed of players covering the 580/680 corridor from Alamo to the north, Pleasanton to the south and west, and Livermore to the east.

Benicia starter Niko Leon Guererro pitched five innings but got no decision. Anthony Lopez earned the win in relief.

San Jose/Milpitas/Gilroy – the District 59 champion and Section 5 champion – beat the Section 4 champion on Saturday.
