BHS volleyball swept in season opener

Benicia High’s varsity volleyball team officially opened its season with a 25-20, 25-12, 25-11 loss at Vacaville on Wednesday.

Freshman Sara McBride had a team-high five kills for the Lady Panthers (0-1). Senior Jessica Blakeman added three kills and junior Emily Maher had two kills. Karah Fisher had 10 assists and three aces while Ramona Glatzel chipped in with nine digs.

Vacaville (1-0) was led by Harlee Medina, Christiana Richardson, Michelle Taynton, Brittany Honeycutt, Lauren Hayward, Libby Christensen, Monica Ramirez and Sierra Allen.

Benicia’s next match is its home opener Wednesday against Albany.
