BHS tennis team sweeps Vallejo

KAITLYN TANG was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in No. 5 singles for Benicia.

Playing at home for the first time this season, Benicia High’s girls tennis team cruised past the Vallejo Lady Redhawks with a 9-0 sweep.

Lily Hayward won her No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, while teammate Melanie Fisher also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Madeline Beyer (No. 3), Madison Lammert (No. 4) and Kaitlyn Tang (No. 5) each lost only one game en route to victories. LaPaula Parker earned her first win of the season after rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles.

Katie Voss and Mariah McNally swept their No. 1 doubles match, 6-0, 6-0. Kati Steineman and Neha Yadav were 6-1, 6-1 winners in No. 2 doubles, and Sam Pacheco and Viva Traver rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 3 doubles.

Benicia (4-0 Solano County Athletic Conference) plays at Fairfield on Thursday.
