Benicia High’s boys tennis team ran its record to a perfect 6-0 after an easy 8-1 victory over host Fairfield on Tuesday.
The Panthers, looking to win a Solano County Athletic Conference championship for the second time in three years, swept all six singles matches against the Falcons. Rajan Bhatia got his first start at No. 1 singles and rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Usual No. 1 Nate Tabtab cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 2 singles, and Alexander Valencia battled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory in No. 3 singles. Tabtab, Bhatia and Valencia are each 6-0 in singles play this season.
Anders Knutstad, Aidan McAninch and Emerson Albro were each 6-1, 6-0 winners in Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. That threesome has a combined 14-3 record this year.
Brian Hung and Emad Abdul-Wajid teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match, 6-0, 6-2. Katsuya Wako and Nick Menjibar paired up for a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles.
Nate Jacobs and John Cope made their Benicia varsity tennis debut by teaming up at No. 3 doubles. The duo ended up losing in a third-set tiebreaker – Benicia’s first doubles defeat of the season.
“They played valiantly and gained invaluable experience that will aide them in their progression,” said Benicia head coach Joe Perrin. “They kept it close and were in it ‘til the end. I couldn’t be more proud of the effort they made.”
