BENICIA HIGH’S boys tennis team completed an unbeaten Solano County Athletic Conference season.

Benicia High’s boys tennis team wrapped up its second unbeaten Solano County Athletic Conference season in the past three years with a 6-3 victory over visiting Vanden last Thursday.

The Panthers, who had already clinched their second SCAC team championship since 2008, won every conference match this season by at least a 6-3 score.

“Playing without our No. 3 and No. 6 singles players, the boys faced the biggest challenge all season,” said Benicia tennis coach Joe Perrin. “We talked about how to handle adversity and accept it as a challenge and an opportunity to show why we are without question No. 1 this season.”

Benicia’s Aidan McAninch had the match of the day, winning at No. 4 singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Nate Tabtab was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles while Rajan Bhatia won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Tabtab and Bhatia are each undefeated this season.

Benicia swept all three doubles matches to turn back Vanden (12-3 SCAC). Brian Hung and Nick Menjibar were 6-2, 6-4 winners at No. 1 doubles. Arjun Sharma and Emad Abdul-Wajid won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, and Katsuya Wako and Jason Yoo won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

The Panthers will take part in the SCAC Championships beginning Monday at the Millennium Club in Vacaville.
