Benicia High’s boys tennis team enjoyed its third straight blowout victory to open the season, dusting off host American Canyon last Thursday, 8-1.
Emerson Albro had the most exciting win of the day for the Panthers (3-0), coming back to win his No. 5 singles match, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-4. Alexander Valencia also pulled out a tough 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 victory in No. 3 singles. Other singles winners for Benicia included Nate Tabtab at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), Rajon Bhatia at No. 2 (6-3, 6-3), and Aidan McAninch at No. 4 (6-2, 6-0).
Benicia’s doubles teams had little trouble with the Wolves. Andrew Butawan and Emad Abdul-Wajid were 6-2, 6-1 winners in No. 1 doubles. Brian Hung and Katsuya Wako teamed up for a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles, while Jonathan Bergeron and Arjun Sharma won their No. 3 doubles match, 6-0, 6-1.
The Panthers played without regular starters Anders Knutstad and Nick Menjibar, who were each out sick.
Benicia plays at Bethel on Tuesday and hosts Vanden in a key SCAC showdown on Thursday.
