Benicia High’s boys tennis team swept visiting Vallejo, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon to remain unbeaten this season.

Nate Tabtab, Rajan Bhatia, Aiden McAninch and Emerson Albro were each 6-0, 6-0 winners in singles matches for Benicia, which improved to 12-0 in the Solano County Athletic Conference. Other singles winners for Benicia included Anders Knutstad (6-0, 6-1) and Alexander Valencia (6-1, 6-1).

Benicia’s doubles teams have been dominating all year, and Tuesday was no different. Andrew Butawan and Emad Abdul-Wajid paired up for a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles while Brian Hung and Nick Menjibar cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles. Katsuya Wako and Jason Yoo were 6-0, 6-1 winners in No. 3 doubles.

“We represent the faculty, student body and we aim every year to never let them down,” said BHS coach Joe Perrin. “To wear a Panther jersey in the spirit of competition is a privilege earned. They know this, embrace it and play with dignity, honor and good sportsmanship.”

Tuesday’s win gave Benicia a season sweep of Vallejo. Benicia has a two-game lead on second-place Vanden (10-2) with three matches left in the regular season. The Panthers can wrap up no worse than a share of the SCAC championship with a victory Thursday at American Canyon.
