BHS tennis still humming along

ARJUN SHARMA was a winner in No. 6 singles in his first varsity start for Benicia High’s boys tennis team.

Benicia High’s boys tennis team ran its record to 11-0 in the Solano County Athletic Conference after a 9-0 sweep of visiting Fairfield last Thursday.

Nate Tabtab cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles for the Panthers, who lead second-place Vanden by two games with four matches remaining. Rajan Bhatia was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in No. 2 singles, and Alexander Valencia rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 3 singles.

Other singles winners for Benicia included Anders Knutstad at No. 4 (6-2, 6-0), Christian Chaves at No. 5 (6-3, 6-1) and Arjun Sharma at No. 6 (6-3, 4-6, 10-4). Sharma was making his varsity debut for the Panthers.

Benicia’s No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Butawan and Emad Abdul-Wajid were 6-1, 6-0 winners. Brian Hung and Nick Menjibar teamed up for a 6-1, 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles, and Katsuya Wako and Jason Yoo were 6-1, 6-0 winners in No. 3 doubles.

The Panthers don’t play again until April 14 when they host Vallejo.
