BHS softball team closing in on another perfect SCAC season

Brianna Schlattman pitched a one-hitter and Nataschia Wibben clubbed a solo homer as Benicia High’s varsity softball team clobbered host Fairfield last Thursday, 15-1, in five innings.

The win gave the Lady Panthers a season sweep of the Lady Falcons and ran Benicia’s record to 22-4 overall and 14-0 in the Solano County Athletic Conference. The Lady Panthers will try to complete their third straight unbeaten SCAC season when they host American Canyon for Senior Day on Tuesday.

Benicia, which started two freshmen and three sophomores, scored five times in the first inning and four more times in the second to take early control against Fairfield (2-18, 0-13 SCAC). Schlattman gave up a run in the first inning but went on to strike out 10 batters.

Wibben went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and three runs. Freshmen Hailey O’Rourke and Grace French each went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Victoria Mackey went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, and fellow senior Courtney Bowling scored twice and drove in a pair.

Benicia has already clinched the SCAC championship and a No. 1 seed for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
