BHS softball suffers first losses of year

April 4, 2015 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

Benicia High’s varsity softball team suffered its first two losses of the season on Friday at the Livermore Stampede.

The Lady Panthers, who opened the tournament with a tough 5-3 victory over Cosumnes Oaks on Thursday, fell 9-3 to Granada on Friday afternoon and then fell 5-4 to Monte Vista later in the day. Benicia fell to 12-2 overall heading into Saturday’s tournament finale.

Benicia rallied back from a two-run deficit against Monte Vista with four runs in the sixth inning, only to see the Lady Mustangs rally for three runs in the seventh to win it.

The Lady Panthers had a two-run lead early against Granada, but the Lady Matadors scored eight straight runs and never looked back.

Olivia DeJesu’s two-run homer in the sixth inning vaulted Benicia over Cosumnes Oaks in Thursday’s opener.
