Tatiana Soglin had a goal and two assists as Benicia High’s girls varsity soccer team blanked visiting Bethel last Thursday, 3-0.
The win vaulted the Lady Panthers into first place in the Solano County Athletic Conference and clinched a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth. Benicia can wrap up its eighth straight SCAC championship with a Senior Night win or tie against American Canyon on Tuesday. American Canyon handed Benicia its only SCAC loss, 4-1, back on March 17.
“I feel like we’re in the playoffs right now,” said Benicia head coach Javier Martinez. “Hopefully we come out ready to play on Tuesday.”
Soglin was ready to play against Bethel, feeding Brandy Chaffey for Benicia’s first goal 10 minutes into the game. Soglin found the net herself 11 minutes later to make it 2-0, then assisted on a Sara Hingley goal in the 76th minute.
The Lady Panthers have gone unbeaten in their past eight games and can finish no worse than second in the SCAC.
“I think we’re playing under a lot of pressure and aren’t playing as well as I’d like, but then again I’m never happy,” Martinez said. “We’re playing well enough to win but we need to relax and just go out there and have fun.”
