Benicia High’s girls varsity soccer team played just well enough to win Tuesday night at Corbus Field in Vallejo.
Carly Castellano scored off a rebound in the opening half and the Lady Panthers made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over Bethel. Though Benicia dominated time of possession and played solid defense, the Lady Panthers (5-6-1, 2-1-1 Solano County Athletic Conference) continue to struggle offensively.
“We’re not able to finish and we’re going to be able to do that against quality opponents,” said Benicia head coach Javier Martinez.
Goalkeepers Madison Goodmiller and Maxine Wade combined for the shutout thanks to solid defensive play by Taylor Coppa, Makala Netcott and Kaela Thyrion, who returned from a concussion.
Benicia hosts Vallejo on Thursday night.
