Benicia High’s girls golf team finished in fifth place out of 19 teams at Wednesday’s 18-hole Sierra High Invitational played at the Manteca Park Golf Course.
Benicia freshman Sofia Young finished second as an individual with a round of 82. Teammate Jennifer Eleccion birdied a hole and finished with a 96. Rachel Mahrt shot a 98, Nicole Ramirez came in with a 119 and Catherine Mahrt rounded out Benicia’s scorecard with a 124.
“The course was wet for the morning and played long with slow greens,” noted Benicia golf coach Mike Prolo. “However, it is a good learning situation for us as we need to recognize conditions will be different from when and where we practice.”
Union High of Tracy won the team tournament with a 465 and was one of only two schools to break 500.
