Benicia High’s girls golf team opened the Solano County Athletic Conference season with an easy 255-373 victory over Bethel at Mare Island on Tuesday.

Benicia freshman Angel Antonio was on target all day, winning medalist honors after shooting a blistering 39. Her teammate, junior Sofia Young, finished second with a 44. Young is the two-time reigning SCAC Most Valuable Golfer.

“I think Sofia was having a bit of an off day, but I think Angel and Sofia will go back and forth for medalist honors all season,” said Benicia head coach Allan Frederick.

Megan Saari, Jordan Whiting and Alexis Valentine each broke 60. Saari had a fine overall day and came in with a 56 for third place. Whiting added a 58 and Valentine rounded out Benicia’s scorecard with a 59.

Lacey Tsutsui had a birdie during a practice round.

Benicia takes on Vanden on Thursday at Cypress Lakes.
