Benicia High’s boys golf team made its season debut Monday by shooting a solid 419 in the 18-hole Del Oro Invitational at the Del Oro Country Club.
The Panthers were competing in a 19-team field featuring only schools that went to the State or NorCal level last year, or finished first or second in their Section. Granite Bay won the tournament with a 383.
Evan Cuenco led Benicia with a 5-over par 77, only six strokes off the individual tournament winner. Nick Flores shot an 83, with Zack McClure (84) and sophomore Dustin Sparks (85) right behind. Connor Hatfield rounded out Benicia’s scorecard with a 90.
“I’m very happy with our scores,” said Benicia golf coach Nan Prolo. “What a wonderful start to the season.”
