Benicia High’s boys golf team completely dominated the Solano County Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday at Rancho Solano Golf Club in Fairfield.
Benicia golfers took the top five individual places and combined to shoot a 391, the team’s best 18-hole round of the season. American Canyon, which finished a distant second, shot a 518.
Benicia’s Nick Flores had an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole and shot a 76 to win the Most Valuable Player award. Dustin Sparks was right behind with a 78, and Evan Cuenco, Zack McClure and Connor Hatfield each shot a 79 to give the Panthers five golfers with sub-80 rounds. Riley McCracken added a 94 and finished eighth overall.
McClure finished second in the MVP race, coming in 7 1/2 points behind Flores in the final totals. Flores, McClure, Cuenco and Hatfield each made the All-SCAC Team.
“Five scores under 80 when last year we didn’t have anyone break 80,” noted Benicia golf coach Nan Prolo. “We were all pretty excited.”
Benicia and American Canyon each advanced as a team to next Monday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Tournament in Roseville.
